2008 Xbox America Annual Fundraiser kicks off

As you all may have noticed, we have added a few ads around XbA to help offset some of the costs of keeping Xbox America up and running. However, we were also quickly outgrowing our hosting package due to the strong community and growth we are experiencing. With that growth also come growing pains. Some of you may have noticed the occasional “over the CPU limit” and “sql errors” that show up from time to time. These are signs that our growth was taking us beyond our hosting capabilities. That is a great problem to have, and everyone should be excited that we keep getting bigger sand stronger on a daily basis.

Having said all that, we are announcing our 2008 Xbox America Annual Fundraiser. This year with a larger and stronger community, we hope to blow our 2006 fundraiser goal of $200 out of the water. Due to the rising costs associated with a larger community, we are setting a very lofty goal of $500 in donations. Since we last had a fundraiser over 2 years ago, the number of members in the XboxAmerica community has grown by a staggering 4500%! So we hope everyone is willing to help us take the site to the next level.

We have some very big plans for XboxAmerica that are currently underway that includes a site facelift, as well as updates and upgrades behind the scenes. We also would like to expand the community event offerings to be more frequent. However, that takes much more money than is currently put into the site:

The benefits of donating to Xbox America:

- Keeps Xbox America up and running smoothly
- Allows us to expand and grow the site
- Those that donate at least $5 have the option to turn off ads*
- Receive a fancy award to show off on your profile page

All of your donations are put back into XboxAmerica to make it the best community experience we can. Some things this money covers:

- Hosting and domain expenses
- More stable website environment
- Upgrades to better software
- New features and functionality
- Community events expenses**

As a special incentive, if we reach or exceed our goal of $500 we will hold a special drawing for those that donate at least $5. One chance will be awarded to each individual for every $5 donated that will allow them to get in on some cool swag and prizes that I have collected over the years or bought myself. The list isn’t finalized yet, but it will include a Limited Edition GTA IV Liberty Lady Statue, Ninja Gaiden II swag, Bully SE swag, GTA IV swag and GH Skinz for the Xbox 360 console and more. However, we will need to meet our donation goal for the contest to take place.

Edit: Make sure to send WitnessBoobie the details of the donation, including identifiable info such as the e-mail address used, amount, name and/or confirmation number, in a private message so we can record the donation.

Edit: Donations need to be processed manually, so it may be a few hours until your donation will be recorded and appear in the progress meter. The account is monitored as much as possible to make this process as quick as it can be.

Good question. It use to be there was a field for entering a message to go with the donation. In the 2006 fundraiser we had donators leave their username in that field. It seems PayPal no longer does that, so you can pm me your name, the receipt id, the e-mail address it was sent from, the confirmation number, or anything else that identifies you as the donator.
